Origins

The Soul of Stones

Château de la Baude is not just a building. It is a witness to time, anchored in the soil of Vaucluse for nearly a millennium. A fortified farm turned into a pleasure residence, spanning centuries to reach us.

The Templar Heritage

In the 13th century, Villedieu was the seat of a powerful Hospitaller commandery, attached to Roaix. The Templars left their mark on these lands until the tragic extinction of the order.

La Baude finds its origins here: a fortified Templar farm, designed around a protective inner courtyard. About 900 years old, it first served as a refuge and a strategic point.

1782

The Change: From La Bande to La Baude

Time passes and the fortress evolves. The "Dictionary of Communes of Vaucluse" mentions the Château d'Entrevon, known as La Baude.

With its enclosed courtyard and 4 rounded corner towers, the property gained its letters of nobility. In March 1782, it was elevated to the rank of marquisate in favor of the Robin de la Bande family. Over time and through Provencal oral usage, the name transformed: "Bande" became "Baude".

XVIIIe

The Golden Age of Silk

Provence changed its face in the 18th century. Villedieu became a renowned center for silkworm breeding (sericulture).

La Baude adapted to its times and became an important establishment for cocoon production. The high ceilings and vast spaces you enjoy today were once used for this precious textile industry.

1991

Rebirth by a Local Family

The story could have ended there, facing the ravages of time. But in 1991, a family from Vaucluse fell in love with this sleeping beauty, then in ruins.

It took 3 years of titanic and passionate work to save La Baude. Since then, the castle has regained its primary vocation, operated as a guesthouse with love, perpetuating a centuries-old tradition of hospitality.

An Open Book

The story is not over. Historical research is currently underway to go even further back, to the forgotten origins of this place.

The Castle still holds many secrets...
